Adventures for us is the combination of doing something that gives a new experience with a sense of awe and excitement, ideally including learning and connection.
The adventures range from bushwalks, to bike trails, hidden forests, huts and ruins, bouldering, lookouts, swimming holes, caves, sand hills, kayak trails, inland beaches, rainforests, sculpture gardens, trestle bridges, waterfalls, mountain climbs, cultural trails, splash parks and much much more.
We have had a child road test every single one of these adventures before the age of 6, walking and climbing by themselves. Given there are over 100 adventures in each book, you'll be sure to find something for everyone, even toddlers.
Whilst these are adventures suited for children, there is nothing specifically childlike about them. So, if you're an adult who enjoys going outdoors but don't want to do big 10 kilometer hikes, then these books are for you.
No. We have a massive range of places to explore, from local reserves to remote national parks. You'll be shown some of the best locations across the state to go on adventures, some hidden and some more well known.
All the adventures in the books can be done safely with children, however many of these places or activities contain elements of danger. Some will be in areas prone for snakes, nearby to cliffs, deep water, remote locations and other hazards. Keeping children safe is paramount, so it's up to adults to decide on both theirs and children's competency to undertake certain adventures.
Outdoor activities are by nature potentially dangerous, and ultimately, you're responsible for the children in your care. If an adventure in the book feels too risky for you, there will always be plenty of easier ones to choose from!
Each guidebook covers from Melbourne to the Victorian border. Each adventure shows the travel time and distance from Melbourne CBD, with some been 20 minutes and others 5 hours away. These are broken up into 'day trips' and 'road trips' for bigger holidays away.
We have coveted locations such as Marysville, The Grampians, The Goldfields, The Wimmera, The Otways, The Mallee, The Victorian High Country, The North East, Gippsland, Wilsons Prom, Phillip Island, The Murray River, Geelong, as well as lots of lesser known parks and places on the outskirts of Melbourne.
Yes! We have adventures ranging from easy to difficult, so you can start easy and build up to more challenging locations with more time and experience. Remember these adventures are tailored for children, so we have given as much information we think needed to make things go as smooth and simple as possible.
You don't need a 4WD to get to any of these places or do you need to camp. There is the option for caravan parks or campsites nearby for each location.
